LAWYERS OF COLOR TO HOST POWER LIST RECEPTION & POWER PATHWAYS CONFERENCE

Marc H. Morial to receive Leadership Award; Leslie Thornton to receive Legacy Award

February 17, 2020 – Washington, D.C. – Lawyers of Color (LoC) has released the names of the honorees for its fifth Power List (full list), which is presented with the support of the Diverse Partners Network. The Power List recognizes the most influential minority attorneys and allies in the nation. Included on the list are Fortune 1000 general counsel and law school deans, as well as legal media and nonprofit leaders.

Honorees will also be celebrated at a complimentary reception at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington, D. C. on Wednesday, February 26, 2020. Habib Ilahi, a former president of South Asian Bar Association of Washington DC and a partner at Stinson LLP will serve as emcee while ABC7’s Victoria Sanchez will present this year’s awards to Leslie Thornton, who recently retired from WGL Holdings, Inc. and Marc H. Morial, the president and ceo of National Urban League.

Honorees will be profiled in the Power Issue. A free digital version will be available on the website, where previous publications are available for viewing.

“Lawyers of Color’s Power List is the only comprehensive collection of minority leaders in the legal profession. We began collecting this data because representation and role models are extremely important as legal organizations seek to reach diversity goals and expand the diversity pipeline,” said Lawyers of Color’s executive director, Yolanda Young.

To coincide with the Power List reception, Lawyers of Color identified and invited young leaders to participate in the Power Pathways Conference 2020, an exploration of pathways to general counsel, managing partner, and law school dean. Confirmed speakers include Vivia Chen of The American Lawyer, Elie Mystal, the former Editor in Chief of Above the Law who is now columnist for The Nation, and a roster of managing partners, general counsel and law school deans. This free, half-day career conference will be held at Foley & Lardner’s Washington, D. C. office on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Registration Link:  https://lawyersofcolor.org/power-pathways-2020/
